MONTREAL - Twitter co-founder Biz Stone showed a picture of himself dressed in a tuxedo with a huge smile on his face, holding hands with his wife, in a wedding dress, covering her face with her hand.

"This photo was taken about 30 seconds after I got married," Stone told an audience of about 1,000 at a luncheon Wednesday at the Palais des congrès. "I look like the happiest guy and the world, and my wife looks like she made a big mistake."

In town to speak as the invited guest of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, Stone said businesses and entrepreneurs need to take pride in their mistakes. If he hadn't, he never would have created the microblogging si ... Read more »

The messaging app is very simple, but the basic design seems to work nicely.

Windows 8 is a very different Windows. We've already seen that it will require Windows users to learn new ways of interacting with their computers, but there's more to it than that. The way applications work and interact with each other on the new platform is new and different—and rather good.

Apple's special media event—one that many believe to be for the next-generation iPad—is now mere days away. By this time next week, we'll know once and for all how many of those pesky pre-event rumors were true and which ones were made up by "optimistic" sources.

Because there are so many elements to consider for the as-yet-unannounced iPad, which is colloquially being referred to as the "iPad 3," we thought we'd round them up in one spot to talk about what seems most plausible.

The rumor that has probably ... Read more »

I once had a chance to hijack the Voyager spacecraft — or at least that's how it seemed. It was back in 1999 and I was in a red-brick building on an unremarkable stretch of Madre Street in Pasadena, a little outpost of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) that was home to the few lonely consoles still monitoring the twin Voyager spacecraft. Even at that point, the ships had long since completed their primary missions. Voyager 1 was 6.51 billion miles from Earth; Voyager 2 was 5.02 billion, and while they were (and indeed, still are) beaming back information about the deepest reaches of the solar system, it was hardly the kind of picture-rich data-stream that requires a full-blown mission control team to manage. So it was down to just a console or two on Madre Street, one of which was unattended and bore a bright orange ... Read more »

The 21-year-old star of forthcoming movie `The Hunger Games` said that while she loves to hit the gym, she does not enjoy depriving herself of food, reported Showbizspy.

"I hate saying, `I like exercising`. I want to punch people who say that in the face. But it`s nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It`s like, `Here`s your trainer. This is what yo ... Read more »

Several weeks ago, I bought some exercise videos online. Then I noticed that whenever I did an Internet search about anything, an ad for that same video package and other similar workout videos kept popping up. It was spooky.

The whole thing reminded me of two scenes from the Tom Cruise movie "Minority Report.” In one, as Cruise is walking through a mall, various holographic ads pop up. There’s a commercial for Lexus, and, as Cruise strolls along, a voiceover says: "The road you’re on, John Anderton, is the one less traveled.” Another says: "John Anderton! You could use a Guinness right about now.” It’s creepy.

General Motors Co. (GM), missing sales goals for the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, plans to halt production of the sedan for five weeks beginning later this month rather than discount the high-technology cars.

GM will stop making Volts at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant from March 19 until April 23, Chris Lee, a company spokesman, said in an e-mail March 2. The factory had ramped up to full-speed production Feb. 6 after the New Year’s shutdown.

While sales of the Volt in February more than tripled from a year earlier to 1,023, the rate is below what’s needed to meet Chief Executive Officer Dan Akerson’s goal of 45,000 deliveries in the U.S. this year. GM missed its target of 10,000 Volt sales last year, finishing 201 ... Read more »
